Q08. Why do I need an SSL certificate?

FAQ
An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificate provides security through HTTPS for the website owner and trust from the website visitors or customer.

Without secure SSL certificates, it's possible for even an inexperienced hacker to intercept that data to be sent over the internet. Trusted SSL certificates encrypt the data, making interception impossible.

On the 6th of August, 2014, Google announced HTTPS as a ranking factor in search engine results, you can read the details in HTTPS as a ranking signal. More recently on the 8th of September, 2016 Google announced that beginning in January 2017 they will mark HTTP pages that collect passwords or credit cards as non-secure, as part of a long-term plan to mark all HTTP sites as non-secure, you can read the details in Moving towards a more secure web.

A private SSL certificate requires its own dedicated or static IP address that is not shared by another site. Having a dedicated IP address would increase your website speed, provide enhanced performance and security.

With any of the Vigeowebsite Plans you receive free during the first year of subscription an SSL-SD certificate and a dedicated IP, you and your customers can then securely access your website using HTTPS.
